Contexts

Came across this tweet from Steve Krouse - I love this idea of "Contexts" This led to more thoughts, like...

What's In a Context?
-
What are the ways of categorizing a context? Some I can think of: Physical location, exchange-of-money-involved, environmental characteristics (noise, space, interior design), presence-of others, presence-of-others-engaged-in-a-similar-goal, externally imposed goal structure/s, externally imposed time structures (start & finish times).

Physical & Digital Contexts
-
Given we spend so much time on our laptops, is it useful to think about the digital context within the physical one? Should we attempt to blur the lines less, or more between physical and digital? For example, the visual and auditory space around the laptop influences our ability to engage with it, as do other factors like how comfortable we are, how big our screen is, how much co2 is in the air etc.

The Laptop as a Context Fuzzer
-
I think Digital Knowledge Work, and the pervasiveness of the laptop for both personal and professional work, has heavily altered the way we encounter and move between contexts. Historically, a change-of-purpose usually goes alongside a change-of-environment (I go outside to socialize, I go to my bedroom to sleep, I go to the office to work), and there's usually some kind of downtime between the two. Could/should we make our experience better by attempting to apply the same ideas to working on our laptop?
